In his televised resignation speech (there are subtitled videos widely accessible online) he conceded to some of his failures of the people of Russia and declared the forthcoming takeover of then prime minister Vladimir Putin. The audio of this speech features alongside the music of this record. I came to this area of history by way of Masha Gessen's book "The Future is History", which is also the source of the title.
