The Chosen Few - 1966

"The Chosen Few" was an iconic Dublin beat/soul band from the Irish beat scene in the late 1960s, with Fran O'Toole as their vocalist and keyboardist. Other members were Mick Molloy (guitar), Deke O'Brien (guitar), Paul Ashford (bass), Fran Byrne/Robbie Brennan (drums) and Donie Ryan (Saxophone). The Chosen Few supported "The Who" at the National Stadium, Dublin in 1966. They played regularly in Club Caroline in Dun Laoghaire and were charged by the Garda with inciting the crowd to indecency, nudity and obscenity and were fined. Little has been written about the Irish beat scene in the 1960's with plenty more gifted groups like The Chosen Few passing under the radar.
