Live at Tivoli Backstage

Live at Tivoli Backstage is Mekkan Ju's debut album. The gig took place in Dublin's Stage 19 (formerly Tivoli Backstage) as part of the Liberties Festival. Six songs were cherry-picked from a 2+ hour set to make up an album that moves from blues rock through funk and soukous rhythms to Afrobeat. Mekkan Ju is a Dublin-based collective centred on the songs of Justin McCann. While the band draws on every influence you can think of, lately we've been focusing on heavily rhythmic grooves inspired by funk, African rhythms, Arabic modes and ska, mixed in with rock 'n' roll aggression, catchy pop melodies and layered vocal harmonies.
