"Here Seán Lyons has bravely parked the security of the standard sean nós repertoire; he has given his uilleann pipes a well-deserved sabbatical and unleashed the fervent feelings of his heart through five fine contemporary songs. There is a fulsome range to his voice; a valuable asset for singers who wish to incorporate disparate traditions, and a strength too which is very impressive. But what impressed me more than anything was the compelling subject matter of the songs. You won’t find any whining ‘look at poor me’ songs of unrequited love that drive us all to drink but rather songs of didactic merit like 'One Day at a Time'.
