Replicants launches the first EP in a forthcoming series, establishing much of an expansive realm up front - a hopscotch of electro lineage drawn through decades of vintage production that traces back through new wave, retro hip hop and electro, via coldwave and early synth pop. Replicants first Woodwork outing manages a modern obscure slant on some distinct classic sounding tracks. Three electro rockers keep things fiery enough. Toned down robotics fuel ‘Mindwurm’, with soaring leads and vocoder breaks pushing a bit tougher on ‘Me’ I’, while arcade drum solos flavour the breaks on the retro bboy jam, ‘Boys’.
