Rath, from old Irish, ráth. A walled enclosure, especially in Ireland; a ringfort built sometime between the Iron Age and the Viking Age. The ringforts I chose for this project were ones I used to visit as a child. Since then, the lands surrounding these forts has have become considerably more urbanized. Most are now overgrown, some used for fly tipping. I wonder how many people are aware of their presence or origins. This project is a reminder that there can be history all around, even at local level. It was also an opportunity for me to reconnect with these sites.
