Mirror Variations

These are the two sleep-deprived early morning piano improvisations that were later shaped into the album 'Mirror'. Recorded in the morning of 9th Feb 2014 after being disturbed from sleep. Often when writing an album, many tangents are explored that are not inherently better or worse than what makes it onto the final version. Simple ideas branch off in many directions. There is a frequent tradeoff between raw spontaneity and polished perfection. I spent the next four years occasionally returning to this material, adding and changing till I completed the album Mirror in 2018, but I still feel that the original recordings have a certain spontaneity that is difficult to reproduce.
