This is an album that we’ve wanted to make for a long time. We both grew up listening to the groundbreaking guitar-forward albums of Arty McGlynn, and independently set our sights on creating something in that vein. We met and clicked musically at the Irish World Academy in the University of Limerick, where we did our BAs in Irish Music and Dance. Then our luthier friend Conor Casey invited us to his workshop to play together to demo some guitars. We arranged a set starting with The Strayaway Child, a tune composed by Marty’s great grandmother, Margaret Barry, and enjoyed the process so much that we decided to record an album together.
