Reflections from Paahto Myself and Luke Coffey have been playing music together for the past eight years, but we didn’t meet through Irish traditional music at all. When I started focusing on bluegrass mandolin in 2017, I became involved with the Dublin bluegrass scene, where Luke was already a central figure. We immediately sparked as musicians—both of us constantly striving for greater technical proficiency, while tracing the steps of the tradition bearers of old: Joe Val, Buzz Busby, Earl Scruggs, Larry Sparks, The Stanley Brothers, J.D. Crowe, Jimmy Gaudreau, and many more.
