Berlin-based multi-instrumentalist Teresa Riemann presents an hour of solo drum- and vocal-based songs. Her loose, hyperactive percussion creates an improbably dense tapestry of disorienting, slippery syncopation, sometimes distorted and punctuated by feedback. Lyrics are delivered in English, German or French, with occasional piano embellishments. The pieces blur the distinction between composition and improvisation, with an approach reminiscent of Charles Hayward's solo work, and melancholic vocal melodies that recall Ian Curtis.
