Although it was a chance encounter at a radio session that initially got Tom Dunne (front man with Something Happens) and Fiachna Ó Braonáin (Hothouse Flowers mainstay) to make music together, it’s fair to say that the outcome – this album, sold out Irish tours and nightly standing ovations – has surprised everyone. “I came from a punk world” says Tom, “and Fiachna a trad one, but it’s startling how similar those worlds are. The byword in both is authenticity, followed quickly by seismic energy and craic. The addition to all that of Alan Connor (Sharon Shannon) is proof that this was meant to be. It was in the stars.
