CHRISTY began life as a short film in 2019. Canty called upon Garry McCarthy, creative director of the Kabin Studio in Cork. This not-for-profit music and creative hub, set in a repurposed metal container, brings kids from the local area together for singing, art, music, and hip-hop. “Garry was like, ‘We've got loads of kids that would love to try out for your short film. They've never acted before but can they come down’.” Brendan Canty was so enchanted by the young crew of rappers at the Kabin and their close knit community that he directed a video for one of their tracks. Ya Boy by the Kabin Crew was released in 2020 and went viral online.
