An Irish fundraising project for promoting awareness of the civil rights abuses visited on Palestinians, Hunger Is Violence is also a hell of a strange spin. Each of the artists, many of them with a major avant garde bent, herewith present their own versions of (or meditations upon) Richard Berry’s minimal/maximal classic. “Louie Louie”. The approaches to the tune range from a detourned academic lecture on the topic (Natalia Beylis) to loose, jolly garage rock (Big Tears) to Velvets-damaged zone-outs (pôt-pot) to an extended technique voice solo (Anna Clock) and onward. A totally captivating project and a good deed as well. Win-win. - Byron Coley, Wire magazine, April 2025.
