Ever since I started playing in clawhammer banjo style, I've been interested in banging out tunes in jig (6/8) timing. The more I've delved into this, the more I've gravitated toward a drop-thumb leading technique in the double D tuning aDADe, although I don't play the 5th string. By avoiding the 5th string, the tuning allows for switching of keys during sets, although there's something about playing solo tunes on the banjo that just feels so good and hypnotic! It's got to a stage where I really enjoy playing these tunes, but when I go to record, I'm forever finding fault.
