Music has always played an integral role in my life. Although many presume that my grá for music was influenced by the strong music traditions of East Clare, it was in fact my Mom who introduced me to a variety of genres from a very young age. We would listen to everything from Billy Joel and ABBA to Máire Breathnach, Séamus Begley and The Chieftains. Our house was never quiet! If the radio wasn’t on, then Mom would be playing piano for us herself. Any family gathering always ended with a sing-song or session of sorts. At the age of seven, I started classical piano lessons in Limerick city. Meanwhile, I learned the tin-whistle at school and at my local Comhaltas branch.
