Cape Tribulation

Being the fourth volume of pages from A Mendicant Hymnal, concerning Cooktown & the Cape... Writing to a friend in 2000, I told him I was at the foot of Mount Sorrow, in Cape Tribulation. Taking this to be a reflection of my mental state, he wrote back urging me to see the good in wherever I found myself. But that is where I was, on the way up to Cape York, where the rainforest meets the reef. Having fallen for a girl by the hostel pool, my friends wagered that I would not go & talk to her, but up there, what had I to lose? We left a day later, hitching together up the Bloomfield Track to Cooktown & I was not to see my friends again for quite some time.
