These works were created through sampling old recordings of Chopin’s music. In taking this approach, the goal was not to remix or reimagine Chopin’s own compositions in any way, but rather to use the recordings of his works as the source material with which to compose entirely new works through a variety of compositional processes. Accordingly, Chopin’s melodies and motives were not sampled and reused, but rather the musical materials sampled from his works were fragmented, often down to the individual note or chord, and thus reworked and manipulated to create entirely new melodies, motives, harmonies and structures.
