From The Core To The Mine

This is a two part 20-minute composition completed for my MA thesis. The composition traces the material history of the materials that digital music technology consists of. The production of the music for this project was an endeavour to foreground the ecological and material processes of digital music technology. The music reflects an ecological understanding of digital music practice that involves both human and non-human actors and contributors. These non-human contributors take an active presence in the music that is produced. They are not hidden materialities, in both of these compositions, they are very much at the forefront of the music.
