Voices of Memory is a stereo adaptation of Christina Kubisch's Voices of Memory installation across two CDs. For this stereo adaptation Kubisch made a selection from the list of 42,000 dead and engaged new voices. Incantatory and variably accented, the reading switches frequently between channels. Overlaps occur and occasionally clusters form around a single name shared by multiple victims of the conflict. Unrepeatable moments of being recede, as you listen, a little further into the past despite the iterable immediacy of that human speech lingering in digital traces. As philosopher Paul Ricoeur pertinently observed, "Beneath history, memory and forgetting.
