Donegal’s immeasurable contribution to Irish music continues to produce musicians of the highest calibre as is seen in Cathal Ó Curráin’s debut recording. Many of my favourite musicians came from the county: Hughie Gillespie, Néillidh Boyle, Tommy Peoples, Aidan O’Donnell and Danny Meehan who I grew up listening to in London. I remember not long ago Danny remarking how all his musical heroes used to be older than him and now they are all younger! I’m delighted to be experiencing this scenario in the form of Cathal Ó Curráin.
