In the beginning, I listened to Bob Dylan and the Velvet Underground songs, bought an acoustic and learned a few chords. By 1992, I fronted a Dublin band from Tallaght. We played a few gigs and did some recordings but when the band split up, the urge to keep writing and recording my own songs remained. For a while, I tried assembling another band, advertising in Hotpress magazine for musicians. Guitarist David 'Shades' Copperthwaite turned up at my place of work with a guitar, a demo, a red velvet shirt and a pair dark Ray bans. I loved his songs, he was clearly a very talented musician. We jammed.
