The three pieces that make up Harbour Grace were written in response to the loss of a friend. In different ways they are concerned with the idea of loss and redemption from above. Gravity features treated recordings of the fabric of my collapsing barn, particularly stressed tin played with a friction mallet. The last storm saw it off. Pressure Waves uses voice recordings of RAF bomber crews over Germany in WW2. The lyrics are taken from those recordings too. Thanks to Deirdre O'Leary for the bass clarinet samples. The lyrics to Harbour Grace are built around extracts from interviews with Amelia Earhart.
