Aggie Whyte 1920-1979. An accomplished and highly regarded Traditional Irish Fiddle player, who hailed from Ballinakill, Co. Galway. She came from generations of musicians; her father, Tommy Whyte, was a founding-member of the famous Ballinakill Céilí Band. She was awarded the All-Ireland Senior Fiddle competition in Cavan in 1954 and the Gold Medal in the competition for traditional fiddle playing at the Oireachtas in 1958. "Aggie’s music had a profound influence on me. It was different from anything I had heard up to that point in my musical life. To me, her playing was ahead of its time!! She was respected by so many of her contemporaries in the world of Irish Music.
